ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Uganda invited students and friends to a fun quiz night at the ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ facilities in Kampala on the 20th of December. The event provided an opportunity to present the programmes offered by ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½â€™s partner universities in the UK: the University of Suffolk and Liverpool John Moores University, as well as the University of California, Riverside Extension, in the USA and ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ University, present in 12 countries throughout Africa.
Guests were taken on a tour of the premises to view the facilities: the e-library, the well-equipped lecture and tutorial rooms, the cafeteria and everything else which will be available to ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ University students after the granting of the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) License. Students were most excited about the e-library and the free Wi-Fi, which can facilitate uninterrupted online research and study.
A presentation of ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½â€™s offering to Ugandan students was given by Dorothy Mukimba, Senior Marketing Manager, who referred to new and existing Bachelor, Master’s and Doctoral degree programmes, as well as Professional Development Short Courses available from ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½â€™s partner universities. Jennifer Male, studying towards the MSc Public Health with the University of Suffolk through ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½, described how seamless the enrolment process was, while Martin Owako, currently a PhD in Business Administration student with ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ University, shared his experience with ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ from the moment he enrolled for a previous Master’s degree and encouraged people to trust ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ for their studies since it will receive its licence in Uganda very soon, while its UK and US partner universities are internationally recognised.
Nicholas Mpairwe , ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Uganda Academic Registrar reassured students and friends present that the licencing process is progressing smoothly and noted that advances in technology and globalisation make online studies a very popular choice for modern learners.
Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Fredrick Ntale Kisekka reiterated that ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Uganda will soon be a fully licenced university, offering easy access to quality higher education at an affordable cost, helping people in remote areas receive sound academic qualifications and working professionals earn higher degrees while working.
ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ students, friends and staff were then divided into groups and the first part of the quiz competition began. After a sumptuous dinner, the teams continued with the second part of the quiz, with the ‘Eagles’ winning the competition and the students on the team receiving their prizes: branded ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ merchandise and free ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ University Professional Development Short Courses. The members of the ‘Eagles’ were: Nagudi Constance, Kabaramagi Zaituni Ruth, Salimo A Pius, Nabwire Roseline Ouma and Jesse Mugero. The ‘Eagles’ celebrated their victory by dancing to the music of their favourite song.
The event offered a great opportunity to students, friends and staff to mingle and network in a festive atmosphere, exchange experiences and learn about new developments at ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Uganda.
